Hana Matsuri is a Japanese restaurant at 580 Meanwood Road, Meanwood, owned by chef Kaoru Nakamura. It is very small: reviewers count six counter seats at the front and a couple more in a back room, with diners watching each dish being made in front of them. It began as a closed-blinds omakase room with a £150 set menu, and now runs as an izakaya, with onigiri rice balls alongside nigiri sushi, hosomaki and special rolls, soft-shell crab, chicken karaage, pumpkin croquettes and grilled yellowtail jaw. The Yorkshire Post has reported that the cooking has passed to a chef from Hong Kong with twenty years in the trade.
