Once Upon a Vine is an independent wine shop and bar at 21 Town Street in Horsforth, Leeds, opened in 2018 by Simon Cocks, formerly a manager at Majestic Wines. The company was incorporated in March 2002 and has been directed since then by Richard John Carr, whose occupation is recorded at Companies House as sommelier; its registered activity is the wholesale of wine, beer, spirits and other alcoholic drinks. It describes itself as a well-established independent merchant selling both to the trade — bars, restaurants, hotels and event venues — and to the public, with wines from large names and smaller independent vineyards, a sustainably produced selection and a mixed-case wine club. An independent natural-wine shop and bar on Regent Street, opened by Becs Winlow, Joss Ainsworth and Steve Nuttall — three friends who had worked together at the Leeds bar The Reliance. It focuses on natural, low-intervention, organic and biodynamic wines, mostly from France, Italy and across Europe, sold by the bottle to take away or drink in, and by the glass. It describes itself as the first venue in Leeds to focus on natural wine when it opened in 2017, and serves locally sourced cheese, charcuterie and sourdough alongside the list.
