About
A butcher on Market Place in Otley, trading as Earnest Weegmanns. Its own account dates the shop to 1869, when it was opened by W Weegmann, a German immigrant, and says it passed to the Smithson family in 1969, who hold it still. Pies, sausage rolls and pork pies are made in the shop''s own bakery, alongside black pudding, sausages, burgers and locally sourced cuts.
The counter runs from raw meat through to a hot section selling warm pork pies, hot roast sandwiches and prepared dishes such as lasagne, and the pie range extends to a ploughman''s pie of ham, cheese and pickle and a Laird pie of chicken, pork and cranberry. It reports winning Best Burger in Yorkshire and, in earlier years, Best Black Pudding in Yorkshire from the Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils.
