Kirby''s of Meanwood is a fish and chip shop at 24 Stonegate Road that has traded since 1922. It was founded by the Kirby family and stayed with them until Robert Kirby, the founder''s great-grandson; Andy Crombleholme bought the business in 2020, weeks before the first lockdown, and also runs a second Kirby''s on Long Row in Horsforth.
Fish and chips are cooked to order, with haddock the shop states is MSC-certified and sustainably sourced, and food packed in biodegradable boxes. Alongside the fryer there are pies and rotating specials such as seafood baskets and Irish spice bags. It reports being named in the top 50 fish and chip takeaways in the UK for four years running, most recently for 2026. It closes on Sundays.
